SIZE MATTERS HANDWRITING PROGRAM

SIZE MATTERS HANDWRITING PROGRAM is the first instructional program that is fully embedable, measurable and proven. It is also equally easy to learn, implement and progress monitor. It does not require workbooks for every student for every grade for every year. These features make SMHP a strong partner in Response to Intervention, a valued companion to core curriculum already rich with content, and bottom line… affordable.

__________________________________________

There are several ways to learn about SMHP. Each provides the prerequisite information, research, concepts, implementation options, center time fun, screening and assessment background to participate in a Therapist Certification Course. Let us know if you are taking or have taken (and with whom):

  • SMHP Webinar series. 3-part Self-Study earning .7CEUs. Real OT Solutions
  • Proven & Practical Strategies to Teach and Remediate Handwriting. .5 CEUs. Bureau of Education and Research.
  • The Size Matters Handwriting Program: Proven, Practical, Measurable and Embeddable. .6 CEUs. PESI
  • The Size Matters Handwriting Program: Proven, Practical, Measurable and Embeddable. * .5-.6 CEUs. Real OT Solution
  • This course is offered through Real OT Solutions, and can be brought to any city upon request for groups of 30 participants or more.

There are three tiers to SMHP Certification.

SMHP Therapist Certification is a 1-day course. It is the only Certification level that travels. When part of Certification Week at the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, it runs from the first evening through the first day. As part of a 2-day program wherein Day One is an introductory level SMHP workshop, it is also known as the Day Two course. The Therapist Certification Curse is an Intermediate level course. It builds on the knowledge taught in the prerequisite course, so therapists can employ the program with fidelity, collaborate with teachers to use SMHP as a full curriculum, score writing samples, write measurable handwriting goals, and identify accommodations for learners with different needs. In addition to onsite lecture and group work, candidates must earn an 80% of the 25-question posttest. Successful
completion of the test entitles participants to use the designation Certified SMHP Therapist after their name on stationary, professional signatures and his/her Curriculum Vitae. This level is a prerequisite for the Instructor level.

SMHP Instructor Certification is a 2-day course. The Instructor Certification training is held at a corporate retreat on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. This is an Advanced level course. At this tier, participants are given a full set of slides from the online and onsite courses to provide continuing education, partner with researchers, and enlighten administrators. Access to graphics for personalizing presentations are provided as well as detailed presenter notes.
Candidates are taught how to complete a Call for Papers, comply with AOTA standards for Approved Providers of Continuing Education, set up remote training, guide teachers and therapists to develop Pilot Studies and employ SMHP in an RtI model. Practice sessions afford insight for future presenters. Games and other activities provide doable classroom strategies to integrate SMHP across the curriculum. Certified SMHP Instructors are eligible to teach one to six hours in length, and to issue CEUs under Real OT Solution’s umbrella as an Approved Provider of Continuing Education. Certified SMHP Instructors can earn fees for speaking depending on the contracts negotiated. In addition to onsite lecture and group work, candidates must earn an 80% of the 50-question posttest. Successful completion of the test entitles participants to use the designation Certified SMHP Therapist and Instructor after their name on stationary, professional signatures and his/her Curriculum Vitae. This level is a prerequisite for the Affiliate level.

Real OT Solutions Affiliate Certification is a 1-day course held the last day at the corporate retreat on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Building on the skills and benefits acquired at previous levels, Affiliates are guided on the key benefits and features of all the supportive materials. They are given a complete set of all products and earn commissions on their sales. Affiliates participate in monthly team updates online, receive new materials and brochures for free and are given personalized Real OT Solutions business cards. Affiliates are encouraged to exhibit and speak at their state conferences and have their exhibit table fees covered. Affiliates are welcomed to expand their territory as far as they want to travel. Purchases by schools, universities, parents, therapists and teachers cultivated by Affiliates
become renewable commissions on each returning order. In addition to onsite lecture and group work, candidates must earn an 80% of the 25-question posttest. Successful completion of the test entitles participants to use the designation Certified SMHP Therapist and Instructor and Real OT Solutions Affiliate after their name on stationary, professional signatures and his/her Curriculum Vitae.
